Persons teaching credit bearing courses at Kalamazoo College will have:

  1. A doctoral or other terminal degree; or
  1. A master’s degree or higher with a  minimum of 18 graduate level credit hours; or
  1. A bachelor’s degree with demonstrated professional experience and competency in the field of instruction as demonstrated by:
  1. Licensure/certification in the field of instruction relevant to professional standards (e.g., CPA to teach accounting)
  1. Demonstrated professional experience and competency in the instructional areas (e.g., music teaching or orchestral experience for applied music instruction)

Assessment of faculty qualifications will occur at the time of hire. For full or part-time faculty teaching within specific departments, departmental faculty or the chair will determine that faculty qualifications are met. For Shared Passages instructors or other interdisciplinary courses without an associated faculty director, the associate provost will determine that faculty qualifications are met. The typical expectation for tenure track faculty will be a doctoral or other terminal degree. Documentation of degrees and, where required, professional experience, will be collected at time of appointment and copies will be included in faculty personnel files located in the Provost’s Office.
