Visiting Assistant Professor of English, Creative Writing (Fiction and Non Fiction)


Kalamazoo College invites fiction writers to apply for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in creative writing to begin September 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year. Curricular contributions will include three sections of a multi-genre introduction to creative writing (poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction) an intermediate workshop in creative nonfiction, and an intermediate and an advanced workshop in fiction.

The teaching load is six courses per year (two per 10-week trimester). An ideal candidate will be able to teach courses that develop the creative writing skills and personal voices of students as well as to help students examine the personal and cultural contexts in which writing emerges. The person who holds this position will also have the opportunity to supervise senior projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and dedication to teaching undergraduate creative writing, a commitment to the liberal arts, and a record of fiction publications, though a book is not required. MFA or PhD (or evidence it will be completed by September 1, 2025) required. Salary is competitive and consistent with level of experience.
