Instructor of Tuba

The Department of Music at Kalamazoo College invites applications for an Instructor of Tuba to begin in the fall of 2023. A B.M. or B.A. with relevant coursework and experience is required. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Students taking applied music study at Kalamazoo College generally take weekly half-hour lessons, though some may opt for weekly hour-long lessons. Payment to Instructors is based solely on enrollment (which can vary widely and may be zero in any term): students are assessed additional fees for applied music courses, 90% of which are given to the Instructor. For reference, the current fee rates for students are available here. Additional, optional opportunities for paid work include attending and offering feedback at student recitals and end-of-the-term juries.

Kalamazoo College is a highly selective, nationally known liberal arts college. It has three 10-week terms per year, stretching from September to late November; January to early March; and late March to early June. For students in the Department of Music – whether casual musicians or working to earn a B.A. music major – we seek to meet them at whatever level of previous experience they bring to their coursework.

To apply, please email Andrew Koehler (akoehler@kzoo.edu), Chair of the Music Department, a current CV and brief message of interest within the body of the email. Applications received by Friday, September 8th, 2023, will be given full consideration.
