Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry (Analytical focus)

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry; position to begin in September 2025. A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, or the equivalent, is required. Primary responsibilities include teaching classes in analytical chemistry, general chemistry, and the Shared Passages seminar program, as well as participating in departmental review of senior individualized projects. The analytical chemist will additionally be expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to have high aptitude for and interest in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to the liberal arts, and a desire to involve undergraduate students in scholarship both inside and outside of the classroom.


Prior teaching experience is desirable: candidates who have experience with programs and pedagogical approaches that are effective in attracting and retaining women and students who are typically underrepresented in the discipline are especially encouraged to apply. Kalamazoo College, home of the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership, is a nationally known liberal arts college with 1370 motivated students, offering an integrated undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into domestic and international educational experiences. The College is also a part of the Posse Foundation program, which adds to the rich diversity of the campus. About 10% of Kalamazoo students major in Chemistry or Biochemistry each year. Graduates of the Department pursue studies in the health care field, graduate-level work in the discipline, or move directly into industrial positions.

The campus is located midway between Chicago and Detroit, and the Kalamazoo area encompasses a community of 335,000, which supports several college and university campuses along with numerous civic arts and cultural associations. Thirty-five miles from Lake Michigan, the area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.
