All Shared Passage courses must be approved by the Associate Provost who works in conjunction with the Shared Passages Program Committee. Guidelines for Shared Passages courses are available online:
For new Shared Passage courses that are not already existing as a regular course offering, instructors should complete the EPC “New Course Proposal” form. If the course will also be cross‐listed with a Department or other program (as might be the case for Sophomore or Senior Seminars), the corresponding Department or Program Chair must preview and approve the course proposal before submitting to the Associate Provost. Otherwise, the Associate Provost will fill out the Chair Section of the proposal form. After review by the Associate Provost, the course proposal should submitted to EPC for completion of the approval process in the usual way.
For existing courses that are converted into Shared Passage courses, instructors should complete the EPC “Course Change Form.” The form should be reviewed by the Associate Provost and then submitted to EPC for completion of the approval process in the usual way.
Note that First‐Year Seminar courses are considered to be variations on one course that has been approved by EPC and the full faculty. However, all First‐Year Seminar courses must still be approved by the Associate Provost working in conjunction with the Shared Passages Program Committee. The Associate Provost will share all new FYS course descriptions with EPC and they will be listed in the Electronic Reports for Faculty Meetings.
Finally, Department Chairs need to confirm that staffing needs for the department are met before committing to offering Shared Passages courses.
